Tokyo Otaku Mode™ (TOM) is the leading platform for Japanese otaku news and content. Every day, TOM shares the latest otaku news in such areas as figures, anime, manga, and cosplay directly from Japan. TOM launched its Facebook page on March 24, 2011. Within two months, it reached 100 thousand likes, and just six months later, it passed one million likes. Now, in only 22 months since its launch, TOM has surpassed 10 million likes, becoming the world’s largest Japanese anime and manga Facebook page. Furthermore, TOM is also the first Japanese-managed Facebook page to surpass 10 million likes.

Growth of Likes on TOM’s Facebook Page Over Time

Facebook Stories, an official web site by Facebook featuring people using Facebook in extraordinary ways, has just published an article featuring TOM and the 10 million people who like its Facebook page;

Otaku, once a term of derision inside Japan for a person deemed to be socially inept, isn't something to be ashamed of anymore. Instead, it's a badge worn proudly by the nearly 10 million people who follow the Tokyo Otaku Mode Page on Facebook, all of whom share an interest in keeping up with the latest of Japan's prodigious cultural output. The fans are so ardent - and global, with 99 percent of the Page's following coming from outside Japan…”

Looking at the demographics of TOM’s Facebook users, the sex ratio is well balanced, with males comprising 55%. Geographically, the number of likes from Asian countries in particular have been increasing, with many users being from Indonesia and the English-speaking Philippines.

Currently, TOM is introducing material to its Facebook page from its website (http://otakumode.com), which is a user generated content (UGC) service as well as an otaku-related news site. In doing so, TOM expects to efficiently widen its services by transitioning users from its Facebook page to its website.

Moving forward, TOM plans to continue delivering unique otaku content to its Facebook users in order to enlarge its Facebook fanbase even more. TOM also plans to contribute to the global entertainment market by becoming the world’s premier otaku-related news media site.
